A one percent (1%) municipal income tax is imposed upon anyone who earns income in the Village of Johnstown, as well as residents who earn income elsewhere but are not taxed within the district in which they work.

An offsetting credit up to one-half percent (0.5%) is available when income tax has been paid to another municipality.

Estimated quarterly payments are required when local income tax is not automatically withheld from income.

All residents aged 18 years or over must file an income tax return with the Village of Johnstown regardless of whether any tax is due. The deadline for returns each year is April 15.

Income tax return forms can be obtained by clicking the above link.

Please contact RITA for all income tax questions and related matters.

Extension requests for additional time to file tax returns must be received by Rita on or before April 15. You may do this with a copy of your federal extension form.  Note: Tax payment is due by the original filing due date or with the copy of the extension.  All tax returns must be postmarked no later than April 15 of current filing year or will be considered late and subject to a 10% penalty and 2% interest.  If you owe more than $100.00 for current tax year, or will owe more than $100.00 for the following tax year, you are required to pay estimated tax.

Quarterly payments not paid on time will be subject to a 10% penalty.  There is also a 2% per month charge on any unpaid balance. The due dates for quarterly taxes are as follows:

  1. April 15
  2. July 31
  3. October 31
  4. January 31
